We have been excited for this change ever since we moved to Florida from California!. Not that Buzz Lightyear is a can’t-miss attraction over at Disneyland, but we enjoyed it a lot more than the one here!
Disney just announced a massive refresh for this iconic Magic Kingdom attraction, and it’s more than just a coat of paint. Here is everything you need to know about the updates launching on April 8! That’s so soon!!
Meet “Buddy” — Star Command’s Newest Recruit
Before you even blast off, you’re going to meet a brand-new face. Imagineers and Pixar have teamed up to create Buddy, a support-bot who will be hanging out in an all-new opening scene. Buddy is there to help you do final system checks and—most importantly—let you practice your aim before you face Zurg.
Shiny New Star Cruisers (With Tech Upgrades!)
The ride vehicles are getting a total makeover. They’ll feature a sleek new design inspired by Buzz’s iconic suit, but the real game-changer? In-car video monitors. You’ll now be able to see your scoring updates in real-time right in front of you. No more twisting your neck to see that tiny LED screen!
Better Blasters = Higher Scores
This is the update I’m most excited about. The blasters are being replaced with handheld versions that feature:
- Always-on laser pointers (finally, we’ll know exactly what we’re hitting!).
- Two different colors per cruiser so you and your partner don’t get your beams crossed.
- Haptic feedback with new sound and vibration effects.
Interactive Targets
The old static “Z” targets are going high-tech. They will now react and light up when you land a hit, making the gameplay much more satisfying and responsive.
