What type of event is Halloween Horror Nights (HHN), you ask? It is an event aimed at teens and up. I wouldn’t suggest young ones visit this event as the crowd can be a bit rough. There is plenty of alcohol being served, and graphic scenes from horror movies are being played out in the park. The event takes place on select evenings in August, September, October, and even November!

HHN 34 The Mazes

The above map shows you the speculation map courtesy of @horrornightmares and at this point we know all of the mazes with the most recent announcements of the original houses. There are two mazes left that are heavily rumored and not confirmed yet,, but I will proceed to trust the rumors surrounding them. Below, I will provide a brief description of each maze, along with our thoughts, and then I will pre-rank the mazes before the season starts based on our level of hype.

Five Nights at Freddy's
Five Nights at Freddy’s

Announced through Halloween Horror Nights on social media and confirmed by John Murdy, the creative director himself, Five Nights at Freddy’s is coming to HHN 34. Although this house announcement hasn’t officially taken place, you can expect to be a house and also to have some amazing animatronics. As a big fan of both the games and the movie, I can say that I cannot wait to have Freddy Fazbear scare me and maybe even grab some pizza before Chica grabs me! We can only hope there is a great themed food area for this intellectual property (IP) as well!

Jason Universe Halloween Horror Nights 34
Jason Universe at Halloween Horror Nights 34

I was tickled blood red to see this IP make a return to Halloween Horror Nights, especially after they wrangled the Jason legal woes! Jason Voorhees is creeping back to Halloween Horror Nights after a 9-year vacation—guess he finally got tired of all that “camping” nonsense! Get ready for an array of woodsy scenes where, of course, Jason himself is lurking around like a creeper at a summer camp! Can we please get a Jason X cameo? I know not everyone’s favorite but come on, it is awesome! Just give him his machete back already!

Fallout Halloween Horror Nights 34
Fallout Halloween Horror Nights 34

This house is inspired by the acclaimed series Fallout, and while we adore the show, we’re eagerly anticipating how this iconic world will come to life at HHN. In an intriguing interview, John Murdy hinted at the inclusion of the legendary power armor from the game and series, promising an unforgettable experience that has us all buzzing with excitement, much like a chainsaw!

It was only a matter of time before Art the Clown made it to Halloween Horror Nights! This property screams HHN and you will be screaming too. From Universal, Avoid becoming the latest victim of Art the Clown inside a grisly haunted house that’s literally dripping with terror and gore!

From Universal, in 19th-century Spain, a tortured artist moves into an isolated country manor for inspiration, but the art comes alive and possesses him.

As huge art fans, we find this concept absolutely captivating. Imagine strolling through a house where paintings spring to life, transforming the artist’s creations into an immersive experience! The potential for enchantment and wonder is limitless, and we can’t wait to immerse ourselves in this vibrant world of artistic exploration!

Halloween Horror Nights 34

From Universal, in this Old West town, all hell is breaking loose. Red-hot lava demons are trying to possess everyone, melting everything in their path.

From Slaughter Sinema 2 last year we get our first maze from that maze and it comes to us in the form of a western. While not our first choice for a maze from SS2 (Blood and Chum, anyone?) We have high hopes that this will be well-themed with some unique scary opportunities.

From Universal, you’re about to become doll-sized and be hunted by toys that have been burnt, melded and stitched together by a twisted little girl.

Do you think I must explain to anyone reading this why this house might be considered creepy? Even though this isn’t the Shining, I still have images of the twins saying,” Come play with us, Danny.” Perhaps we can get a little easter egg of the twins in doll form? I’m excited to see what Universal comes up with for dolls!

From Universal, welcome to your funeral, where things are about to go from bad to worse. You’ll enter your grave and then the underworld, where flesh-eaters who feed on the dead will hunt you for all eternity.

On the surface, this enchanting maze is reminiscent of “The Darkest Deal,” our favorite maze from 2023! I can almost smell this maze already, dirt and must, anyone? A graveyard is already creepy, and this maze takes a step deeper by bringing you into the grave!

From Universal, in a remote northern village, a wicked being rises from the dead, bringing a horde of monsters and demons from the fjords to wreak havoc on the townspeople. You’ll face icy, horned, winged and wolfish fiends that gradually merge into one giant horror. Then you’ll try to escape the belly of the beast.

We expect this maze to delve deeply into Norse legend, and that could produce some really cool and impressive costumes that play into that mythology! Think Dwarves, Giants, and other creatures! Additionally, we are talking about a cold-themed maze, which, in Central Florida, we welcome with open arms! I better see a wolf animatronic!

Final Announced Mazes

With only one IP-based maze to be announced, WWE, I created the above image before Terrifier was announced!

Wyatt Sicks WWE

The last rumored maze is around the WWE universe. There are many different ways to approach this maze, but based on our AI prompt, we would love to see The Undertaker and Rhea Ripley in the maze. Fans of WWE probably expect to see Wyatt Sicks in some form. All we want to see is a tremendous technical maze with some killer stunts from some of the scare actors. Something like Dracula and the Hunchback from previous years mazes for stunts will suffice!

Before HHN Ranking list

Something we do yearly is rank the houses on our hype level before the season, and then rank them after the season is over. From most excited to least here they are.

  • Gálkn: Monsters of the North
  • Jason Universe
  • El Artista: A Spanish Haunting
  • WWE
  • Terrifier
  • Five Nights at Freddy’s
  • Dolls Let’s Play Dead
  • Fallout
  • Grave of Flesh
  • Hatchet and Chains: Demon Bounty Hunters

What do these rankings mean, though? Not much, honestly, as we have seen in the past, there will be a maze that blows us away and other mazes that let us down. Last year, we ranked Goblin’s Feast low, and it ended up being one of our favorites!

Halloween Horror Nights 34 Scare Zones

Scare zones offer a thrilling way to immerse yourself in the fright of Halloween Horror Nights as you navigate through the park. These areas are exciting because scare actors often stalk you and get uncomfortably close, adding to the fun. This year’s scare zones are designed with cohesive theming, and we can’t wait to dive back in and experience the terror once more! Below is Universal’s wordings about each zone.

Mel’s Die-In Zombies

Being billed as a street experience, this has us hopeful for roller skaters, based on some casting rumors that have been circulating.

Mutations: Toxic Twenties

In a 1920s neighborhood, a BuzzCon truck with radioactive cargo crashes into a mobster getaway car sending the city into toxic pandemonium

The Cat Lady of Crooked Lane

Travel down a spooky winding path to a mysterious home, where trick-or-treaters are transformed into feral felines. Be careful or you’ll be next.

Masquerade: Dance with Death

You’re invited to a masquerade ball where bloodthirsty vampires lurk behind ornate disguises. When their masks fall, you’ll become their prey.

The Origins of Horror

Enter a decaying conservatory of twisted vines where artists carve tributes to Halloween Horror Nights 34. You’ll encounter monstrous crows, gargoyles and more.

HHN 34 Shows

We have exciting news in the shows section: there will be two shows returning! Nightmare Fuel has been announced alongside the return of the Lagoon show. We couldn’t be more thrilled that the Lagoon show is back, as it enhances the HHN vibe and provides more options for guests (not literally “eating up” people). This is especially great since Rip Ride Rocket will be closed this year!

Next up is the show, or should I say shows? Rumors are high that the lagoon show makes its return to HHN after being missing in action since Hurricane Ian damaged the lagoon back in 2022. The Fuel Girls are set to return to the former Fear Factor stage in what should be an exciting and gothic themed show.

HHN 34 Food

In closing, we’ll talk about what remains to be announced for Halloween Horror Nights 34: food! Food plays a significant role during the event and can sometimes even present better food than the mazes (I am looking at you, Triplets of Terror). We expect some great themed items for this year as well. Can I get a Nuka-Cola, please, for Fallout? How about a ‘rest in peace cake, ‘Rest in Peace’ cake? Okay, maybe not that one, but we can’t help but look forward to what Universal has been cooking up in the food department for HHN 34. Below are some examples of food menus from years past.

HHN 34 Conclusion and a couple tips

As we close out, we will leave you with some tips and tricks to make your night more enjoyable. These are the strategies we deploy for ourselves and are sharing to you!

General Tips

  • Arrive Early: If you aren’t spending on an express pass and only have one night, we suggest getting to the gate 30 minutes before opening and having a plan on where you are going. Lines for the mazes can get long.
  • Use the App: Download the Universal Orlando app for wait times for the mazes.
  • Go on a Weeknight: Tuesday–Thursday nights are typically less crowded than weekends. They are still crowded but usually by midnight it is a ghost town in parts of the park.
  • Buy Tickets in Advance: Avoid long lines and ensure your night isn’t sold out and in some cases cheaper.
  • Stay & Scream: Use a Stay & Scream holding area if you’re already in the park during the day—this allows you to enter the first houses faster. We can’t stress how vital Stay and Scream is if you are not buying the Express Pass.

Haunted House Strategy

  • Hit Popular Houses First or Last: Go to the most popular houses (like IP-based ones) right at the start or just before closing. If you opted in for Stay and Scream you will be set up to conquer the most popular mazes fast and in the beginning of your night!
  • Use Express Pass Wisely: If you have Express, save it for the busiest times—early evening and weekends. Typically if you have express you can leisurely enjoy the mazes at your own pace, however it does not work for the show and you will want to consider this.
  • Nightmare Fuel: If you want to see the show, we recommend lining up an hour early for the earlier shows or 30 minutes for the last shows of the night. They do close the line, so be mindful.

Goblins Feast Halloween Horror Nights 33
Goblins Feast Halloween Horror Nights 33

Not for the faint of heart, Halloween Horror Nights 34 will be the ultimate test of bravery. Will you dare to enter, knowing that once inside, there’s no escape from the horrors that await? Get ready for a night of adrenaline-pumping thrills and spine-tingling chills that you won’t soon forget.

Secure your tickets now, if you dare, and prepare to face your darkest fears this Halloween season! See you in the fog!!!
