The Mazes so Far
We are thrilled to announce that we’ve uncovered this year’s original haunted houses! Typically, there are six terrifying original houses, bursting with spine-chilling horrors, and four notorious intellectual property (IP) houses that bring your favorite on screen terrors to life. So, brace yourself and let’s delve into the spooky details… if you dare! In order of release, keep in mind the summaries of these mazes are our guesses to what they will be.
Get ready to scream your lungs out this spooky season as Halloween Horror Nights 33 presents Slaughter Sinema 2! From Universal, “If you’re dying for a B-movie horror marathon, head to the Carey Drive-in. Scream through scenes from creature features, grindhouse gore, spaghetti westerns and more.” Lock the dates, grab your tickets, and prepare for an unforgettable journey into the heart of horror!
Back in 2018, Slaughter Sinema was a maze and very popular. The path took you through eight b-type horror movies with the climax being a cheesy film named, “Attack of the Swamp Yeti!” The Yeti’s were very popular last year, so here is hoping that Slaughter Sinema 2 includes, Attack of the Swamp Yeti’s 2!
This maze has us intrigued, especially since last year’s Dueling Dragons house was so popular. It seems Universal decided to embrace this theme further with another fantasy-themed haunted house. We envision a setting where you traverse a castle with various rooms, centered around a feast as implied by the title. Expect plenty of water effects and up-close, humorous scares in this one.
At Halloween Horror Nights 32, the Major Sweets scare zone was an exciting experience. Imagine Willy Wonka with a spooky twist. Visitors who indulge in Major Sweets’ candy find themselves becoming infected and eerie. Expect a lot of vibrant colors and whimsical settings, with Major Sweets at the heart of the maze, enticing guests to sample his confections.
A creepy museum where things come to life at night is something you can sign us up for right now! Picture this: ancient artifacts whispering their forgotten secrets, shadowy figures moving in the corners of your eyes, and eerie, spectral lights illuminating dusty, long-abandoned exhibits. Imagine the thrill of wandering through darkened hallways, where the echoes of history come alive with every step you take.
Universal describes this maze as you are accompanied by La Muerte as your guide, you’ll be pleading for mercy as you encounter the spine-chilling terror of these three legendary figures: Tlahuelpuchi, La Lechuza, and El Silbón. Each of these myths instills fear with their disturbing lore and eerie presence, ensuring an unforgettable experience that will leave you shivering.
Knowing nothing about any of these I did some googling, but I imagine a village setting where you wander around and encounter these monsters. Also this maze was at HHN Hollywood last year. I am not going to look, but I assume there are spoilers for it, and this will end up being a clone of it.
Tlahuelpuchi: In Mexican folklore, a Tlahuelpuchi is a shapeshifting vampire or witch that lives with a human family and drinks the blood of infants at night
La Lechuza: Lechuza—a Spanish word for a type of owl, especially the barn owl—is a myth popular throughout northern Mexico and Texas. As the story goes, an old woman shape-shifts into a giant owl, La Lechuza, to take revenge on people who wronged her during her life.
El Silbón: El Silbón (The Whistler) is a legendary figure in Colombia and Venezuela, associated especially with Los Llanos region, usually described as a lost soul. The legend arose in the middle of the 19th century.
Every year, there is a maze we think we will not like. For instance, last year, the Darkest Deal didn’t excite us and ended up being our favorite house. Well, so far, that is this house this year. The summary is: “You’re invited to the Barmy triplets’ birthday bash. But beware, they celebrate by recreating their family’s murders. Prepare for a gory gathering.” To me, this sounds like Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses, which we loved as a house, so here is hoping for a raging good time!
Conclusion and Final Thoughts on HHN 33
There you have it, six out of ten houses have been announced, and we all await the IP houses to be announced which at this time we are confident in those being Ghostbusters, Universal Monsters, Insidious, and A Quiet Place.
Also for anyone new to HHN here is some information about it
What type of event is Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) you ask? It is an event aimed at teens and up. I wouldn’t suggest young ones to visit this event as the crowd can be a bit rough. There is plenty of alcohol being served and graphic scenes from horror movies being played out in the park. The event happens on select evenings during September, October, and even November!
