This article is going to celebrate two birthdays, mine and our blog! A year ago, Disney Kinda Life was born. You have joined us 70 times as we have been living our Disney Kinda Life. Our first-ever post covered my birthday from last year at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This year we turned our focus to Magic Kingdom which of course is home of the newest attraction at Walt Disney World TRON Lightcycle /Run. This trip report will take you on our journey for my birthday!
As we celebrate the blog’s birthday, we will have many links to other articles we have featured over the past year. Also, one note I would like to make is our day yesterday was not an efficient way to enjoy the parks as we did purchase two individual lightning lanes and park hopped three times! Also, we paid for preferred parking which we never recommend!
The day started at 7 am when we grabbed a boarding pass for TRON Lightcycle /Run. You cannot simply walk up to TRON and wait in line. Instead, you have to join a virtual queue which you can read about in our article, how to ride TRON Lightcycle /Run. We pulled boarding group 5 (not as good as our group one from earlier in the week but not bad either! This set us up for an early morning at Magic Kingdom.
One tip we always give people for Saturdays at Magic Kingdom, do not expect to stroll in casually on Saturday mornings. Magic Kingdom is the busiest park in the world and that makes Saturdays awful if you don’t plan. For the mornings on the weekends and especially Saturdays get to Magic Kingdom at least 90 mins before the park opens. If you don’t you might as well wait until 90 minutes after it opens to avoid the AM rush.
On the way over to TRON, we stopped by one of our favorite gold statues installed for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary Stitch! He was jealous of my RSVLTs Blue Milk shirt, but I told him I would bring some snacks to him later! Also, if you were interested in finding the gold statues or finding them virtually through us, you can read our article, All 50 of Disney’s Golden Character Statues Locations to find them.
Our wait for TRON Lightcycle /Run was relatively quick since it was still early in the morning We snapped a couple of photos with a TRON disc from the photo pass cast members. Also for our locker we decided to grab 325 for the birthday! The TRON area is cool looking but really comes alive at night. So far, the soft openings close right as the sun goes down, which is disappointing.
After TRON, we headed for the exits to leave Magic Kingdom and even Walt Disney World to cash in free Starbucks and Nothing Bundt Cake, each of which gave me a birthday present. Who doesn’t love free cake? We enjoyed our treats off-property for a few hours before returning to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Heading into Disney Hollywood Studios (DHS) we had two items on the agenda. Ride Star Wars Rise of the Resistance and eat at Sci-Fi Dine in. As we entered DHS we noticed Star Wars Rise of the Resistance had a rare 35 minute wait so we rushed over there. Star Wars Rise of the Resistance is still one of the more popular attractions at Walt Disney World and you can read some tips on how to experience it in our how to ride Star Wars Rise of the Resistance article. Suffice to say our wait turned into 70 minutes as the attraction famously broke down while we were in line, but since it was inside and air conditioned we waited it out.
Next, we had our reservation at Sci-Fi Drive in, one of our favorite places to eat in Disney World. The atmosphere of this place is fantastic, and the food is delicious! This has been our go-to place for anniversaries and birthdays, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon! Please read about this fantastic restaurant in our Sci-Fi Dine-In review article. Sci-Fi Dine-in review article. The atmosphere of this place is excellent, and the food is delicious!
Next was an obligatory picture of blue milk in Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. We don’t recommend the blue milk, but why not grab a photo while I have this shirt on? Also, we ran into Max Goof, a rare character, and grabbed a picture with him also The Mandalorian and Grogu were out as well!.
Our next stop is a trip back to Magic Kingdom to ride TRON again. Now the only way to do this twice currently is to grab the free virtual queue at 7 am or 1 pm and purchase an individual lightning lane (ILL), which we did for our second time of the day. Also since we purchased the ILL we choose the latest return time in hopes of catching some evening shots, but it was still too early for that.
After TRON it was time to head over to EPCOT to ride Guardians of the Galaxy which we also bought individual lightning lane ILL for. If you do not want to purchase that you can read our how to ride Guardians of the Galaxy article on some tips. We also were able to almost walk on Frozen Ever After when we were done with Guardians.
One final stop for the night was Disney Springs to grab ice cream from Salt & Straw and also one cookie from Gideons Bakehouse. Now neither of these places will give you anything for your birthday, but they are well worth the carbs and calories for your special day and we recommend them both!
