What is TRON Lightcycle / Run, you ask? Well, it is the newest attraction coming to Magic Kingdom and a clone of the same attraction in Shanghai Disneyland, TRON Lightcycle Power Run. Climb aboard your very own light cycle and enter the grid. Race against other programs on the grid and finish with a race above Tomorrowland.
We can’t wait for this to open, and we have all been waiting a long time for this one. You see, this was promised to be open in time for the 50th anniversary, but well, COVID happened, and here we are. The seats are like Flight of Passage in Animal Kingdom, where you have to straddle the seat, and in this case, you are leaning forward like a motorcycle.
TRON Lightcycle / Run Virtual Queue & Lightning Lane Single Pass & Lockers
As of September 9th 2024 TRON now has a traditional line you can wait in. Lightning Lane Single is still available for purchase. Read on below on how to use that!
Like Guardians of the Galaxy, Disney is deploying the virtual queue and Lightning Lane Single Pass for you to experience TRON Lightcycle / Run. Our article here outlines those processes in detail. To that point, it is essential to know that you cannot simply walk up to TRON Lightcycle / Run and must be familiar with the virtual queue process or Lightning Lane Single Pass.
Another announcement, and first for Disney World, is free lockers for your belongings. Those who frequent Universal Studios are familiar with this process. However, some of you may not be. As you approach the loading area of the attraction, you will be required to place your belongings in a free-to-use locker. You can tie it to your MagicBand, MagicBand+, or even physical ticket. In cases where guests have none of these options, a card will be used.
All items must be placed either in a locker before you board your Lightcycle or in a small compartment on the attraction vehicle that can hold items such as cellphones, glasses, or wallets. See more on this process from Disney here.
Lightning Lane Multi Pass & Lightning Lane Single Pass
In order to utilize Lightning Lane, you need a cell phone with the “My Disney Experience” app, and also, purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass. To purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass you can purchase this 7 days before you arrive if you are staying at a Disney Resort, or 3 days for all other guests. You can purchase this at 7am EST on your first day of eligibility.
To complicate things more, certain rides aren’t even included in the purchase of Lightning Lane Multi Pass. You actually have five attractions, that you have to purchase separately. These are called “Lightning Lane Single Pass”, or Lightning Lane a la carte. These attractions are currently: Please note Disney opted to leave Seven Dwarfs Mine Train as a ILL making this the first park with Lightning Lane Singe Passes.
- Magic Kingdom: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train & TRON Lightcycle /Run
- EPCOT: Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind
- Disney’s Hollywood Studios: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
- Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Avatar Flight of Passage
Each Lightning Lane Single Pass can be purchased 7 days by guests staying on property for any of the attractions above. Guests not staying on property can purchase them 3 days in advanced, however be warned of the attractions above are gone within the first couple minutes or even seconds in the case of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and we are sure TRON will even be faster for a while. So be ready for your timing based on your travel plans.
Also, one more point of contention, if you are managing Lightning Lane Multi Pass and also Lightning Lane Single Pass, you have a choice to make during your scheduling. The positive change for this new system is that you aren’t trying to do this all at 7am while also trying for a virtual queue. For Seven Dwarfs you can read our strategy here, but we would not purchase Lightning Lane Single Pass for that attraction. is the first major addition at Magic Kingdom since Seven Dwarfs, and it is sure to be extremely popular for a long time. Your Magic Kingdom days should revolve around TRON strategies. If we were making a plan we would grab the free virtual queue at 7am for TRON and then go back into Genie + to reserve attractions. For Seven Dwarfs you can read our strategy here, but we would not purchase Lightning Lane Single Pass for that.
Final Thoughts on TRON Lightcycle / Run
One last tidbit of news is on 1/30/23, Disney powered up TRON Lightcycle / Run’s canopy. It is quite the site, although we all wish it were a bit more visible in Tomorrowland than it is in Shanghai Disneyland. But official photos of it look incredible.
As you can see above, TRON Lightcycle / Run is an amazing site to behold, and should build it into your Magic Kingdom plans to experience it here at Disney World. What are your thoughts? Are you excited for TRON Lightcycle /Run? Let us know in the comments.
