Well it is official, the fourth maze announcement of Halloween Horror Nights 31 (HHN31) is in fact The Weeknd: After Hours Nightmare! For months on Facebook and talked about on our speculation maps, version 3 is the most recent one released from Horror Nightmares.
From Universal: “Prepare to enter the macabre mind of The Weeknd in this haunted house as he stalks you and your friends through the surreal living nightmare of his After Hours music. His nightmare is now yours.” Below is the official trailer for the announcement as well.
To Recap: What type of event is Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) you ask? It is an event aimed at teens and up. I wouldn’t suggest young ones to visit this event as the crowd can be a bit rough. There is plenty of alcohol being served and also graphic scenes from horror movies being played out in the park. The event happens on weekends during September and October which is the Halloween season.

Also worthy of note today Universal put the Frequent Fear Passes up for sale. This allows you to choose a multi-night ticket for HHN. We suggest buying this if you are close enough, and want to go at least 3 times. Also worthy of note is to stay away from Friday, and Saturday nights if you can as they get very crowded.
The Weeknd After Hours Nightmare Final Thoughts
While this announcement doesn’t move us one way or another, we are sure this maze will be entertaining to say the least. While we both like The Weeknd’s music we are hoping what is included is original, and creepy music from him. I don’t want to walkthrough a greatest hits list of his tunes. I love “Blinding Lights” as much as the next person, but it doesn’t scream scary. I even tried on a Halloween mask and pretended to scare my wife to “Blinding Lights” to see how it would work, and it didn’t!
This of course isn’t the first time there is a music collaboration for HHN. In 2013, Halloween Horror Nights had a Black Sabbath maze that pretty showcased their newest album. What made that maze work was it was a cohesive military theme that really fit in with Black Sabbath’s style. The next year, Slash lent his talents to Clowns 3D which was a bit forgettable to us. His guitar riff wasn’t memorable, and didn’t really help the maze out at all. He also returned for a Universal Monsters maze years later, so for us it isn’t too surprising The Weeknd is getting a chance here.
What are your thoughts on this maze? Are you excited, or indifferent in this announcement? Let us know in the comments, and see you in the fog!
