Salt & Straw Now Scooping at Disney Springs!

ICE CREAM! Who doesn’t love ice cream? Salt & Straw is here! Those of you that knows us are familiar with our love of Salt & Straw. Since moving to Central Florida, we have missed our monthly excursions to the nearest Salt & Straw scoop shop. We have however kept our freezer stocked up with pints from their online ordering service. Word of caution before you order online, you might want to wait for a shipping promo code (sent through email or social media announcements), because without that, it is expensive.

Salt & Straw was born in Portland, by cousins Kim &Tyler Malek. You can read their wonderful story here. We had the opportunity to meet Tyler in San Francisco while he was promoting his ice cream cookbook. Not only does this book show you how to make some of their most delicious flavors, but it is also a great read. We recommend it if you ever thought of making your own ice cream.

Tyler was super nice and personable. He answered several of my newb questions and never made me feel like an idiot. The passion he exhibits for his ice cream oozes out of him like any of his flavors melting on a hot day.

With the Disney Springs location 18 minutes from our door now, we are out of the online ordering demographics, and couldn’t be happier! Let us explore the wonderful, yummy, gooey, and sometimes strange flavors of Salt & Straw at Disney Springs.

Salt & Straw Disney Springs Location

Yesterday 4/20, Salt & Straw opened it’s doors. As expected, the line for this place was long, however they were processing customers at a incredible rate. Also you can pre-order your ice cream from the Salt & Straw website for pickup. We chose this option for later in the evening.

Our pickup was set for 10:15 in the evening. We headed over to Disney Springs which wasn’t very crowded. Keep in mind it is the middle of the week, which is the best time to go if you can. We walked around Disney Springs and made our way over to Salt & Straw. It is placed right in front of the AMC movie theater. A great location indeed.

Salt & Straw Opening day Disney Springs

As you can see Salt & Straw was crowded with anxious people to get ice cream. Because we had our order in already, we were able to skip the line and head inside to pick up our order. To our surprise co-founder and owner Tyler Malek had the apron on , and scooping ice cream for customers.

The Ice Cream

Salt & Straw ice cream is unique. You won’t find straight forward flavors outside of Double Fold Vanilla. Do not let this persuade you from trying them out, keep in mind if you wait in the line, you can try out samples of all of the flavors. Make this the time you decide to try out something off the wall like, Strawberry Honey Balsamic w/ Black Pepper. This one is good trust me!

As noted above, this ice cream is top notch. Each flavor is crafted from passion and it shines through in every bite. Seriously you will want to explore the flavors for research of course!

Also monthly, Salt & Straw releases special flavors that are around only for the month. They usually coincide with what is going on during the season. October produces Chocolate Covered Crickets, while November has Fried Turkey Skin, both worth a sample! April this month has flavors created by young minds, and are based off their ideas. Check out their everchanging menu here.

Conclusion on Salt & Straw

We love Salt & Straw, and now we can drive over to enjoy it again. We will continue to try out their monthly flavors as we did back in California. All I could ask of Tyler and company is, do you have a low carb flavor in the works?

What do you think? Will you try out Salt & Straw?

Also one administrative topic: The link to the cookbook may generate revenue for us if you click on it and buy something from Amazon. Don’t worry we won’t see what you buy, and this doesn’t make the price of products go up. We would greatly appreciate the support though.
