While a lot has been said about Splash Mountain and the re-theming to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, this blog hasn’t posted on any of it until now. While many people have opinions on the re-theming, we’re on board with it, but only with some conditions, Disney! If you’d like to read the Disney press release announced in 2020, you can find it here. I would read it before Googling second-hand new sources claiming to know why they are re-theming it. Splash Mountain… I’ll never forget watching it being built in the late 80s at Disneyland as I grew up on the west coast. Imagining riding whatever was to come is part of what makes theme parks so much fun. Finally, in 1989 getting on what seemed like the best attraction ever with the biggest drop I could ever imagine was total bliss.
As years went on, Splash Mountain became the must do at the end of every night at Disneyland, and in the 90s, that was 1 am during the summertime. Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) hit this attraction out of the park.
We like to rate attractions on the whole experience, from your approach to the attraction, the queue, the ride system, and the décor. Splash Mountain has all of these amazingly well. Splash Mountain is a perfect attraction and on par with the greats like Haunted Mansion, and Pirates of the Caribbean, to name a couple. The pictures below really showcase how awesomely detailed Splash Mountain is.
It’s worth mentioning again that we are on board with the re-theming. Change is good for us even though we want to resist it. We’ll all get through this together, and if Disney holds up their end of the bargain, this experience will be even better than it is now. We do not doubt that the re-theming of this attraction will be awesome, and we can’t wait to try it out. Also, remember that Walt Disney re-themed many of his attractions while he was alive, so this is no different.
In closing, I want to give Splash Mountain a personal send-off and thank WDI for the memories. We welcome Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in 2024 as long as Disney puts forth a considerable effort in improving an already amazing experience. We leave you with all the photos we took on our last trip down the 50 foot drop which happened on January 21st, 2023.
Thanks for the memories. Loved this❤️❤️❤️👍👍
